Olympic sports inilatag sa Myanmar SEA Games

MANILA, Philippines - Para sa 2013 Southeast Asian Games sa Myanmar, halos karamihan sa naka-kalendaryong 32 sports events ay pawang mga Olympic sports.

Papayagan lamang ang Myanmar na magpasok ng isang indigenous sport na maglalatag ng apat na gold medals para sa nasabing bienniel event na huling idinaos sa Indonesia noong nakaraang taon.

Sinabi ni Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia na panahon na para pagtuunan ng pansin ng mga miyembro ng SEA Games ang mas mahalagang mga Olym­pic sports.

“Everybody should focus on Olympic sports. This is the direction we’re going and we should start in the Sea Games,” ani Garcia. “There should be a number of Olympic sports set.”

Sa 2011 SEA Games sa Indonesia, kabuuang 44 sports disciplines na may 545 events ang inilaro kung saan itinampok ang mga non-traditional sports kagaya ng arnis, muay thai, hockey, netball, petanque, squash, rugby union, cric­ket, kenpo at vovinam.

Ikinatuwa rin ni Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr. ang pagpapahalaga sa mga Olympic sports.
