Suarez laglag na; Barriga, 2 pa tuloy sa pagsuntok

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan--Isang kabiguan sa kanilang team captain at tatlong panalo mula sa mga bagitong boksingero ang nangyari sa kampanya ng PLDT-ABAP Boxing Team sa ikalawang araw ng Sydney Jackson Memorial Tournament dito sa Universal Sports Complex.

Matapos umiskor ng pa­nalo kamakalawa, natalo naman si team captain Charly Suarez kay Faziddin Gaibnazarov, isang Uzbe­kistan qualifier sa 2012 London Olympics, sa iskor na 16-21.

Inangkin ni Gaibna­za­rov ang first round, 6-4, at ang second round, 14-13, para sa kanyang ta­gum­pay.

“We thought Charly won it and it was a much closer fight than the score indicated. But Charly needs to make some adjustments. The new scoring system allows for points even for punches delivered with 60-70% force. Charly lands bombs and he staggered his opponent a couple of times. But they counted for only a point each. You need to throw more punches now,” ani ABAP executive director Ed Picson.

Ibinangon naman ng tatlong bagitong boksi­ngero ang laban ng kopo­nan matapos magposte ng magkakahiwalay na tagumpay.

Dinaig ni London Olympics-bound Mark Anthony Barriga si Temitas Jusupov ng Kazakhstan, 11-8, para sa kanyang unang panalo sa kabila ng tinamong siko sa kanyang dibdib sa se­cond round.

Tinumbasan naman ito ni 2011 AIBA World Junior Champion Eumir Felix Marcial matapos gibain si Shaboz Muhammadov, 14-13.

Nakuha ng 16-anyos na tubong Zamboanga City ang first round, 7-5, bago nakatabla si Muhhamadov sa second round, 9-9.

Ngunit naging mas de­ter­minado si Marcial sa third round patungo sa kanyang panalo at makakasagupa naman niya si Babur Aytbaev sa Miyerkules.

Tinalo naman ng 16-anyos ring si Ian Clark Bautista si Ilhom Ivonov ng Uzbekistan, 16-13, para sa pangatlong panalo ng ko­ponan sa torneo.
