Sharapova gustong igiya ang Russia sa Olympic gold

MELBOURNE - Nga­yon pa lamang ay nakatutok na si Russian golden girl Maria Sharapova para sa 2012 Olympics Games sa London.

Tangan ang tatlong Grand Slams, 24 WTA titles at $16 milyon sa prize-mo­ney, sinabi ng Florida re­sident na si Sharapova na gusto niyang mabigyan ng gold medal ang Russia sa 2012 Olympics.

Hindi nakalaro si Sha­rapova sa nakaraang Olym­pic Games sa Beijing, Chi­na noong 2008 dahilan sa isang shoulder injury.

"This year is a big year for me because I'll be pla­ying in the Olympics, which has been a dream of mine since I was a young girl," sabi ng 24-anyos na Russian netter.

"Growing up in Russia, tennis wasn't a big sport back then. It was all about being an Olympian, es­pecially the winter sports. Over­all, I was extremely dis­ap­pointed I missed Beijing,” dagdag pa nito.
