Palembang, Indone­sia — Opisyal nang lu­maga­pak sa No. 6 ang Pi­lipinas sa overall stan­dings ng 26th Southeast Asian Games ma­tapos ma­bigong makasik­wat ng ka­ragdagang medalya sa hu­ling 12 final events kaha­pon.

Sa kabuuang 36 gold, 56 silver at 77 bronze me­dals sa final tally, isinuko ng mga Filipino ang kanilang fifth place finish sa Laos SEA Games noong 2009.

Nasa pang lima nga­yong edisyon ng biennial event ang Singapore sa na­kolektang 42 gold, 45 silver at 73 bronze me­dals. Ang 18 gold medals ay nangga­ling sa aquatic events.

Inangkin naman ng host Indonesia ang overall championship sa nako­lektang 182 sa 552 gold me­dals na inilatag sa 2011 SEA Games bukod pa ang 151 silver and 142 bronze me­dals.

Natalo ang Indonesia sa defending football champion Malaysia, 4-5, sa finals sa 80,000-seater Bungkarno stadium sa Jakarta.

Sumegunda ang Thailand sa nalikom na 107 gold, 100 silver at 120 bronze medals kasunod ang Vietnam (96-90-100) Ma­laysia (59-50-81).

Tumapos bilang No. 7 ang 2013 SEAG host Myanmar (16-27-36) sa itaas ng Laos-PDR (9-12-36), Cambodia (4-11-24), Ti­mor Leste (1-1-6) at Brunei Darussalam (0-4-7).

“My personal expectation was about 50 to 55 gold medals. There were some close calls in our silver medals that could have im­proved our production. In the case of my association, tennis, I feel that we should have come up with two more gold medals but we fell short. This is also the case in a number of asso­ciations,” ani deputy Chef De Mission Romeo Magat ng lawn tennis.

Humataw ang mga netters ng 1 gold, 2 silver at 3 bron­ze medals.

Sa kabuuang 39 sports disciplines, ang taekwondo ang nakakuha ng pinakamaraming medalya sa 4 gold, 3 silver at 5 bronze medals kasunod ang bo­xing (4-1-1)n at billiards/snooker (3-2-4).

Ang athletics ay nagtakbo ng 2 gold, 9 silver at 5 bronze medals kasunod ang wushu, wrestling, cycling at softball na may tig-dalawang gold medals.

Nag-ambag rin ng mga gin­to ang mga Filipino ath­le­tes mula sa bridge at sport climbing.

Hindi naman naka­pagbi­gay ng gold medal ang swimming, shooting, at gymnastics.

Ang 54-anyos na si Francisco Sainz Al­quiros ay kumuha ng 2 gold at 1 silver medal sa bridge event na mas mataas sa natumbok na dalawang gold ni cue artist Iris Ra­nola buhat sa 8-ball at 9-ball singles.
