SBP tututukan ang paghahanda sa 2013 FIBA-ASIA meet

JAKARTA , Indonesia --- Matapos makuha ang ko­rona sa men’s basketball event ng 26th Southeast Asian Games, ang kopo­nan namang ilalahok sa 2013 FIBA-Asia Cham­pion­ships ang tututukan ng Sama­hang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Ilan sa mga miyembro ng Sinag Pilipinas ang ma­aaring maibilang para sa “Gi­las II” na siyang isa­sa­bak rin ng SBP sa World Cham­pionships sa 2014.

“We didn’t talk about Gilas II here as we wanted the pla­yers to focus on winning the championship here,” wi­ka ni Gilas operations director Butch Antonio. “But now that the mission here is done, yes I can say that the SBP already has a plan for Gilas II. These players are likely to make the pool.”

Isang ‘formula’ ang inila­tag ng SBP ni Manny V. Pa­­ngilinan na sisimulan ng pag­­poporma ng coaches’ pool na magiging kandidato pa­ra sa pagiging national head coach.

Ilan sa mga ikinukun­si­dera ay sina Norman Black, PBA coaches Chot Re­yes ng Talk ‘N Text, Ryan Gregorio ng Meralco, Tim Cone ng B-Meg at as­sistant Jong Uichico ng Ba­rangay Ginebra.

“Tim Cone and Jong Ui­chico will be asked if they’re willing to join the program,” wi­ka ni Antonio.

Alam na nina Black, Re­yes at Gregorio ang prog­rama ni Pangilinan pa­ra sa Gilas Pilipinas.

Sina Reyes at Gregorio ay nagsilbi nang assistant ni Serbian mentor Rajko To­roman sa nakaraang FIBA-Asia Men’s Cham­pion­ships.

Nagtapos na ang kon­trata ni Toroman bilang coach ng national team ngu­nit iimbitahan pa rin siya pa­ra sa Gilas II program.

“It’s up to him if he wants to be part of the pool,” sabi ni Antonio kay Toroman.

Posibleng tumayo si To­­roman bilang consultant sa mailuluklok na bagong Fi­lipino head coach.

Inilampaso ng Sinag ang Thailand, 85-57, sa fi­nals kamakalawa ng gabi pa­ra sa gintong medalya.
