Roach makukuha ang ika-6th BWAA Trainer of the Year award kung...

MANILA, Philippines - Makukuha ni Freddie Roach ang kanyang pang anim na Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Trainer of the Year award kung maipapanalo niya ang apat na world title assignments sa susunod na siyam na linggo.

Ang apat na laban ng mga bataan ni Roach ay isasarae ng HBO.

Sisimulan ito ng pakiki­pagharap ni Jorge Lina­res kay Antonio DeMarco para sa bakanteng WBC lightweight crown sa Los Angeles sa Linggo kasunod ang pagdedepensa ni Manny Pacquiao sa kanyang WBO welterweight diadem laban kay Juan Manuel Marquez sa Las Vegas sa Nobyembre 12.

Matapos ito, lalabanan naman ni WBC middleweight title holder Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. si challenger Peter Manfredo, Jr. sa Houston at sa Disyem­bre 10 ay makakatapat ni WBA “super” at IBF lightwelterweight ruler Amir Khan si Lamont Peterson sa Washington, D. C.

Ang isa pang world champion na nasa ilalim ni Roach ay si WBA welterweight king Vlacheslav Senchenko ng Ukraine.

Dinala ni Roach sa Li­na­res sa Baguio City bilang sparmate ni Pacquiao at sinabing handa na ang Venezuelan para makuha ang kanyang ikatlong world title matapos maging WBC featherweight at superfeatherweight champion.

“DeMarco’s a tough guy,” ani Roach. “Linares will win an easy decision or score a late knockout. He’s basically a counterpuncher like Marquez but I want him to be a little more aggressive. In Manny’s first few years in the US, Linares used to come over to the gym and spar with him. It was pretty even between the two then. Of course, now, Manny is so much stronger, faster. We took Linares to Baguio because he fights somewhat like Marquez. I think Linares got a lot better sparring with Manny.”

Ukol naman sa pagde­depensa ni Pacquiao, si­nabi ni Roach na hanggang six rounds lamang si Marquez.

Kumpiyansa rin si Roach na mananalo sina Chavez at Khan. 

“They spoil Chavez in Mexico but when he reports to our gym, he’s very disciplined,” wika ni Roach. “He trains just like Manny and takes it really seriously. He’s not a playboy either. Amir will be the next star in my stable. Peterson is a hard hitter but he won’t be able to catch Amir.”

Nakamit ni Roach ang BWAA Trainer of the Year Award noong 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009 at 2010. 

Ang karangalan ay ini­alay sa namayapang si Eddie Futch na nagturo kay Roach.
