Valdez 'di umubra sa beteranong si Concepcion

MANILA, Philippines - Dinaig ni Barcelona Olympics veteran Emerito Concepcion si Jason Valdez para pagharian ang 10-meter Air Rifle event ng 2011 PNSA National Open kamakailan sa Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine National Shooting Association Shooting Range sa Fort Bonifacio.

Nakatabla ang 15-an­yos na shooting sensation mula sa Malate Catholic Church patungo sa sixth at final round, ginamit ni Concepcion, may tatlong gold medals sa SEA Games si­mula noong 1989 sa Kua­la Lumpur edition, ang kanyang eksperyensa para manalo ng isang puntos.

Ang kanyang near-per­fect round na 99 ang nagbigay sa kanya ng six-round total na 584 sa event na inorganisa ni PNSA pre­sident Mikee Romero at inihahandog ng Harbour Centre at AirAsia.

Nagtapos naman sa ikatlo si Miguel Gabriel Jay­me na may 561 at lamang ng apat na puntos kay Celdon Arellano.

“It was a thriller of a shoot­out,” wika ni Romero, aasa kay air rifle shooters at pistol king Tac Padilla para sa 26th SEA Games sa Indonesia. “But I still believe that we can pull off some surprises in other events, even in the women’s division. They’re all pumped for the SEA Games.”

Sa distaff side, pinagreynahan naman ni Venus Lo­velyn Tan, miyembro rin ng isang 11-man Philippine team para sa 2011 Indonesia SEA Games, ang kanyang dibisyon sa ipinutok na 383 points para talunin sina Diana Nicole Eufemio (380) at Ma. Isabelle Eufemio (373).

Samantala, ipuputok naman ang Rapid Fire (25m at 50m range) bukas at ang Center Fire Pistol, Sports Pistol at Rifle Prone sa Linggo.
