Castilo singles champ sa PBaRS

MANILA, Philippines - Inangkin ni Gelita Castilo ang kanyang unang women’s Open singles crown sa MVP Sports Foundation-Bingo Bonanza Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBaRS) circuit matapos igupo si Bianca Carlos, 21-7, 21-14, sa final round sa Wheels ‘N More badminton courts sa Davao kahapon.

Naging inspirado ang top seeded na si Castilo, natalo kay Carlos sa Manila leg final at isinuko ang Bacolod leg title kay Malvinne Alcala, patungo sa kanyang 33-minute victory.

Ibinulsa ng top Golden Shuttle Foundation bet ang P70,000 premyo sa nasa­bing P1 million event na nag­silbing  third leg ng four-stage nationwide circuit na inorganisa nina Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) president Jejomar Binay, Rep. Albee Benitez at businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan.

Nakamit naman ni Carlos ang P35,000, habang sina joint third placers Bian­ca Legaspi at Fatima Cruz ay tumanggap ng tig-P10,500 sa awards rites.

Napanatili ni Antonino Gadi ang kanyang dominasyon sa men’s Open singles matapos igupo si Paul Vivas, 19-21, 21-12, 21-14, at kunin ang P70,000.

Sa kabila naman ng kanyang kabiguan kay Castilo sa Open, nakuha pa rin ni Carlos ang kanyang ikatlong Under-19 title nang biguin si Janelle De Vera, 21-16, 21-15.

Tinalo na ni Carlos sina Nikki Servando at Ana Barredo sa Manila at Bacolod leg, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Nakopo naman ni Wil­bert Natividad ang kanyang PBaRS crown makaraang payukurin si Rabie Jason Oba-ob, 21-10, 21-13, sa boys” U-19 category na event na suportado ng PLDT-Smart Foundation, Victor PCOME Industrial Sales, Gatorade and Po­wersmash with The Philippine STAR, TV5, Badminton Extreme Philippines Magazine, Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, 99.5 RT at 103.5 WOW! bilang media partners.

Tumanggap sina Carlos at Natividad ng tig-P20,000.

Giniba naman ni top-ranked Markie Alcala si second seed Alvin Morada, 21-16, 20-22, 21-14, para sa kanyang pangatlong boys’ U-15 division crown, habang inangkin ni Whackers’ Joella de Vera, nagkampeon sa Manila leg, ang girls’ U-15 title mula sa kanyang 21-18, 21-12 tagumpay kay Amabal Sumabat.
