Azkals minamalas, Mulders 'di rin makakalaro vs Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines - Bukod kina team captain Aly Borromeo at midfielder Stephan Schrock, hindi rin makakalaro ang midfileder na si Paul Mulders sa laban ng Philippine Azkals kontra Kuwait Al-Azraq (The Blue) sa second round ng 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Ito ay bunga ng kumalat na leg infection na nagmula sa kanyang pagkakadulas sa laban ng Azkals sa Sri Lanka Brave Reds sa first round.

“Footballers can’t heal wounds right away because the legs always get stretched,” sabi ng Fil-Dutch na nakipag-ensayo rin sa kanyang football club na ADO Den Haag noong nakaraang Lunes bago lumubha ang kanyang impeksyon kinabukasan.

“I already had fever. I woke up and my knee was really big and infected. It was almost as big as my thigh,” sabi pa ni Mulder.

Kasalukuyang nasa Bahrain ang Azkals para sa dala­wang friendly matches bilang paghahanda sa kanilang two-leg series ng Kuwait.

Nakatakda ang first leg sa Hulyo 23 sa Mohammed Al Hamad Stadium, Hawalli, habang ang second leg ay magaganap sa Hulyo 28 sa Rizal Memorial Stadium sa Vito Cruz, Manila.

Ang Kuwait, nagwagi na ng Asian Cup trophy, ay kasalukuyang No. 102nd sa FIFA world rankings kum­para sa pagiging No. 159th ng Azkals.

Haharapin rin ng Azkals ang Kuwait sa first leg na wala sina Borromeo at Schrock matapos mabigyan ng yellow cards sa kanilang first round series ng Brave Reds.

Natalo ang Azkals sa Under-23 team ng Bahrain na naghahanda naman para sa 2012 Olympic qualifying.

Sina Phil at James Younghusband, Neil Etheridge, Chieffy Caligdong, Ian Araneta, Rob Gier, Jason de Jong, Jerry Lucena, Ray Jonsson, Patrick Hinrichsen ang mangunguna sa Azkals.
