Uichico aminadong malakas na kalaban ang Talk N Text

MANILA, Philippines - Ito pa lamang ang ikalawang pagkakataon na magsasagupa ang Gin Kings at tropang Texters sa isang championship series.

Ang una ay noong 2004-2005 Philippine Cup kung saan nanaig ang Barangay Ginebra laban sa Talk ‘N Text, 4-2, sa kani­lang best-of-seven titular showdown.

“Talk ‘N Text is strong,” sabi ni Gin Kings’ head coach Jong Uichico sa Tropang texters ni mentor Chot Reyes. “We have to play a better game. We’ve got to play 48 minutes. There is no time to relax against them.”

Magsisimula ang title series ng Talk ‘N Text at Ginebra bukas sa ganap na alas-7 ng gabi sa Araneta Coliseum.

Winalis ng Tropang Texters ang kanilang best-of-five semifiinals wars ng Air21 Express, 3-0, saman­talang tinalo naman ng Gin Kings ang Nationals ng Smart-Gilas, 3-1, upang itakda ang kanilang championship duel.

Hangad ng Talk ‘N Text ang kanilang pang apat na PBA trophy kung isasama ang mini-tournament na 1998 Centennial Cup.

“The key will have to be in our preparations. We can’t let guard down against either of those teams,” sabi ni Reyes. “So now we can breathe a little bit. But we all understand we’re just one step closer to our goal. There are still four more games we need to win.”

Asam naman ng Ginebra ang kanilang pang siyam na korona matapos maghari noong 2008 Fiesta Conference. 

Sa kanilang huling kam­peonato, ipinarada ng Gin Kings si seven-foot import Chris Alexander laban kay 6’8 Steve Thomas ng Express.

Kontra naman sa Talk ‘N Text, itatapat ng Ginebra si Nate Brumfield kontra kay Paul Harris.

Sina Brumfield at Harris, kasama si LD Williams ng Alaska, ang tatlong rein­forcements na hindi pinalitan ng kani-kanilang koponan sa import-laced conference.

Sa local side, aasahan ng Tropang texters sina Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams at Ranidel De Ocampo.
