Gomez, 3 iba pang Pinoy nanalasa sa Vietnam chessfest

HO CHI MINH City, Viet­nam - Tinalo ni Dresden Olympiad sensation GM John Paul Gomez si IM Wang Li ng China para pa­ngunahan ang tatlo pang Filipino players na may per­fect scores matapos ang second round ng 2011 HD Bank Cup Open chess championship dito sa Rex Hotel.

Magaang na nilaro ni Gomez, nakuha ang kanyang GM title sa 38th World Chess Olympia sa Dresden, Germany noong 2008, ang puting piyesa upang talunin ang 27th-seeded na si Wang at kunin ang kanyang ikalawang sunod na panalo sa six-day tournament na nilahukan ng 74 players mula sa siyam na bansa.

Kuminang rin ang kam panya nina GM Drawin Laylo, IM Richard Bitoon at IM Oliver Dimakiling para sa kanilang 2-0 baraha.

Tinalo ni Laylo, ninth-seeded na may ELO na 2516, ang kababayang si FM Harias Pascua, habang iginupo ni Bitoon si IM Khoa Bao ng Vietnam at sinibak ni Dimakiling si WFM Ton Nu Hong An ng Vietnam.

Ang nasabing apat na Filipino players ay tumabla kina top seed GM Le Quang Liem ng Vietnam,   GMs Zhao Weiqi at Zhao Jun ng China, WIM Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, FN Nguyen Duc Hoa of Vietnam at IM Nguyen Thanh Son ng Vietnam.

Giniba ni Le, ang highest-rated player sa torneo mula sa kanyang ELO 2664, si IM Lou Yiping ng China.

Ginitla naman ni Zhao Weiqi si IM Kim Steven Yap ng Philippines, samantalang binigo ni Zhao Jun si Liu Shanglei.
