Manila palaban sa gold sa 2011 SEAG - Romero

MANILA, Philippines - Sa paghahari ng Ma­nil­a Sharks sa nakaraang Dunkin Donuts Baseball Philippines Series 7, kum­piyansa si team ow­ner Mikee Romero na ka­ya rin nilang angkinin ang gold medal sa 26th Southeast Asian Games sa Indonesia sa 2011.

“Sisiguraduhin ko na ka­pag ito ang kinuha ni­lang team may gold me­dal na tayo (sa 2011 SEA Ga­mes),” prediksyon ni Romero kahapon sa lingguhang PSA sports forum sa Shakey’s sa U.N. Avenue, Manila.

Kasabay nito, hiniling rin ni Romero sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) at Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) ang pamamahala sa baseball team na isasabak sa 2011 SEA Ga­mes sa Indonesia.

Sa suporta ni Romero, inangkin ng national baseball squad ang gold medal sa SEA Games noong 20­05 sa Pilipinas bago tinalo ng Thailand noong 2007.

“We believe that with the organization that we have we can put the Phil­ippi­nes back into baseball pro­minence not only in Southeast Asia but also in the Asian level,” wika ni Romero.

Ang mga Filipino batters ay kasalukuyang No. 6 sa Asya at No. 19 naman sa buong mundo.

“Number six na tayo sa Asian rankings at konting-konti na lang puwede ta­yong mag-number one. And maybe the first Asian gold might come from baseball or maybe in the Olympics,” ani Romero. “We may never know.”

Tinalo ng Manila Sharks ni coach Joehl Palanog ang Batangas Bulls, 7-0, para sa kanilang back-to-back Baseball Philippines title kamakailan.

“The nice thing about our ranking is that previously we ranked No. 5. Ang una lang sa atin last time was Japan, korea, Tai­wan and China,” ani Pa­lanog. “Pero dahil hindi tayo nakakasali sa mga international tournaments at hindi tayo nakaka-earn ng points, na-overtake tayo ng Thailand.”
