Amir Khan umiskor ng unanimous decision kay Marcos Maidana ng Argentina

LAS VEGAS -- Nalagpasan ni Amir Khan ng Great Britain ang isa sa pinakama­bigat niyang laban.

Tinalo ni Khan si challenger Marcos Maidana ng Argentina via unanimous decision upang mapanatiling suot ang kanyang World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight crown kahapon sa Mandalay Hotel sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I fight with my heart,” wika ni Khan. “When I go into the ring, I know I’m going to get hit. You can tell by his record he’s a strong puncher, and I took everything he gave me.”

Itinaas ni Khan ang kanyang win-loss-draw ring record sa 24-1-0 kasama ang 17 KOs kumpara sa 29-2-0 (27 KOs) ni Maidana.

Pinabagsak ni Khan si Maidana sa huling 10 segundo sa first round mula sa kanyang left hand bago nakabawi ang challenger sa 10th round.

Subalit dinomina naman ng 24-anyos na si Khan, ang silver medalist sa 2004 Athens Olympic Games, sa 11th round upang tuluyan nang maidepensa ang kanyang WBA light welterweight title.

“He’s a strong fighter, and he hits hard. My chin was tested. I’m not taking anything away from him. He’s a great champion. I proved today I’ve got a chin,” wika ni Khan kay Maidana.

Ang point deduction ni referee Joe Cortez kay Maidana sa fifth round dahil sa paniniko kay Khan ang sinasabing nagbigay sa Briton ng panalo.

Nakahugot si Khan ng 114-111 puntos kina judges Jerry Roth at C.J. Ross, habang nagbigay naman si Glenn Trowbridge ng 113-112.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon na luma­ban si Khan sa Las Vegas.
