Si Kiamco na lang ang pag-asa ng RP

MANILA, Philippines –  Itinayo ni dating Southeast Asian Games gold me­dalist Warren “Warrior” Kiamco ang watawat ng Pilipinas matapos talunin si David “El Matador” Alcaide ng Spain sa 35th Annual US Open 9-Ball Champion­ship nitong Sabado sa Che­­sapeake Conference Center sa Virginia.

Humataw ang Cebuano native na si Kiamco ng 11-5 panalo laban kay Al­caide para maging tanging Filipino na lumalaban sa lo­ser’s bracket ng torneong may $40,000 top prize.

Nahulog si Kiamco sa loser’s bracket nang matalo kay dating US Open 9-ball ruler Corey “The Prince” Deuel, 10-11, sa fifth round sa winner’s bracket.

Tinalo na ni Kiamco sa loser’s bracket sina Tommy Kennedy ng USA, 11-8, ang kababayang si Efren Bata” Reyes, 11-4, at si Lo Li-wen ng China, 11-9.

Nakatakdang sagupain ni Kiamco si Deuel, sinibak si Jason Klatt ng Canada, 11-1, sa isang rematch.

Nagtala naman ng pa­nalo sina 2009 World Ten Ball champion Mika “The Iceman” Immonen ng Finland at 2008 World Ten Ball king Darren “Dynamite” Appleton ng Great Britain sa winner’s side.

Iginupo ni Immo­nen si Klatt, 11-4, habang ti­nalo naman ni Appleton si Alcaide, 11-8.

Ang mananalo sa pagitan nina Immonen at Appleton ang aangkin sa unang finals berth at ang matatalo ang haharap sa mananaig sa laro nina Kiamco at Deuel.

Bukod kay Reyes, ang iba pang Pinoy na nasibak na sa double elimination format ay sina Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Jose “Amang” Parica, Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan, Ronato “Volcano” Alcano, Dennis “Robocop” Orcullo, Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez, Antonio “Nickoy”Lining, Lee Vann “The Slayer” Corteza, Ramil “Bebeng” Gallego, Santos “The Saint” Sambajon, Jundel Mazon at Edwin Montal.
