Villamayor PSC chessfest Champ

MANILA, Philippines - Matapos ang ilang ka­biguan, nakamtan na rin ng Dresden Olympiad cam­paigner na si Filipino Grand Master Buenaventura “Bong” Villamayor ang tagumpay nang pagha­rian ang Philippine Sports Commisison “All in Sports Expo 2010” chess tournament sa PSC canteen.

Tinalo ni Villamayor si Da­vid Elorta sa 51 moves ng Slav para iposte ang 8.0 points sa nasabing nine-round tournament na inorganisa ng National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) at sinuportahan ng PSC.

Nakatabla ni Villamayor para sa first place si GM Mark Paragua, bumigo kay World Cup veteran GM Ro­gelio Antonio, Jr.

Subalit dahilan sa mas ma­taas na tiebreak score, si Villamayor, miyembro ng Philippine team na suma­bak sa 2008 World Chess Olympiad sa Dresden, Germany.

Sa kabila nito, pinaghatian nina Villamayor at Paragua ang P50,000.

 “It feel good. It’s a nice feeling to finally win again. It’s really been a long while,” wika ni Villamayor, nagbalik sa bansa matapos ang kan­yang pagtuturo at pagsa­sa­nay sa mga batang chess players sa Singapore.

Nagtapos naman si Elorta na may 7. 0 points para sa third place katabla sina World Cup quarterfinalist Wesley So at Aeroflot veteran GM Darwin Laylo.

Ang iba pang nasa Top 10 ay sina Roel Abelgas, Deniel Causo, Aeroflot ve­teran GM Darwin Laylo, Ro­nald Llavanes, Rolando Nolte, World Cup quarterfinalist Wesley So at Nelson Villanueva.

Tinanghal namang top female participant si Sherily Cua sa naturang two-day competition.
