CHED Games bubuksan ngayon ni PGMA
MANILA, Philippines - Pangungunahan ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ang pagbubukas ng 2010 Commission on Higher Education (CHED) National Games ngayong hapon sa Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Humigit-kumulang sa 5,000 student-athletes mula sa 17 rehiyon ang mag-aagawan para sa karangalan sa nasabing sportsfest na inorganisa ni CHED Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles.
Ito ang unang pagkakataon na makikita sa aksyon ang mga private, state universities at local government colleges sa iisang sports meet.
Ito naman ang sinuportahan ni Presidente Arroyo.
“I personally consider the CHED National Games as a milestone for Philippine higher education because this is the first time that (private) higher educational institutions, state universities and colleges and local government colleges and universities are staging an integrated national sports competition,” wika ng Pangulo.
Sa nasabing sports event inaasahang makakadiskubre ng mga bagong talentong magiging kinatawan ng bansa sa mga international competitions.
“The need to put together the best athletes from all these institutions has never been this urgent in our desire to discover and develop top-caliber athletes who can represent the Philippines in international sports competitions someday,” ani pa ni Gng. Arroyo.
Makakasama ni Presidente Arroyo sa opening ceremonies ng CHED National Games sa ganap na alas-3 ng hapon ay sina Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Harry Angping at Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
Pormal na magsisimula ang aksyon bukas mula sa 18 sports na paglalabanan sa iba’t ibang sports venues sa Metro Manila.
Ang mga individual sports ay ang men’s at women’s athletics, men’s at women’s badminton, men’s boxing, men’s at women’s chess, dance sports, men’s at women’s judo, men’s at women’s karatedo, men’s at women’s lawn tennis, men’s at women’s swimming, men’s at women’s table tennis at men’s atwomen’s taekwondo.
Nasa kalendaryo rin ang men’s baseball, men’s at women’s basketball, men’s at women’s beach volley men’s football, men’s sepak takraw, men’s softball, men’s volleyball at women’s volleyball. (RC)
