IBO hinubaran ng korona si Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines - Dahilan sa muling pag­laban ni Filipino world seven-division champion Manny Pacquiao sa weltertweight division, minabuti ng In­ternational Boxing Organization (IBO) na maghanap ng ibang hahawak sa kanilang light weltertweight crown.

Ito ang inihayag kahapon ng IBO sa isang press statement kaugnay sa pagtatanggal nila kay Pacquiao ng suot nitong IBO light welterweight title.

“We were proud and privileged to have the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world hold the IBO junior welterweight world title,” wika ng IBO sa kanilang official statement.

Ang IBO belt ay nakuha ni Pacquiao matapos umiskor ng isang eight-round TKO kay Briton Ricky “Hitman” Hatton noong Mayo 2 sa MGM Grand sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kasunod nito, inagaw naman ng tubong General Santos City ang suot na World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown ni Mi­guel Angel Cotto ng Puerto Rico mula sa isang 12th-round TKO no­ong Nobyembre 14.

Nakatakdang idepensa ni Pacquiao ang kanyang WBO welterweight title laban kay Joshua Clottey ng Gha­na sa Marso 13 sa Cowboys Stadium sa Dallas, Texas.

Hawak ng 31-anyos na si Pacquiao ang 50-3-2 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 38 KOs kumpara sa 35-3-0 (20 KOs) ng 32-anyos na si Clottey.

Kabilang sa mga umasam sa IBO light weltertweight belt ay sina Paulie Malignaggi, Juan Lazcano, Jose Luis Castillo at Juan Urango.

Maliban sa IBO light welterweight at WBO weltertweight title, napanalunan rin ni “Pacman” ang World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight, International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight, WBC featherweight, Ring Magazine super featherweight at WBC lightweight belts.
