Gomez, Valle umusad

Davao City, Philippines – Dinurog ni two-time leg champion Roberto Gomez si local bet Reynaldo Lariba Jr., matapos ang 9-1 panalo sa simula ng The Manny Villar Cup Kadayawan Leg kahapon sa dinumog na Activity Center ng NCCC Mall dito.

Halos hindi pinawisan si Gomez, nanalo sa torneong ito noong nakaraang taon, sa halatang kabadong si Lariba, nang agad itong sumulong sa 3-0 lead para sa 10th edition ng prestihiyosong island-hopping series na ito ng Villards: Tulong sa Pagsulong ng Philippine Sports ni Senator Manny Villar’s.

Si Villar Cup Cebu leg titlist Gandy Valle ang ikalawang umusad sa round-of-16 matapos igupo ni former Asian Games gold medalist si Manila qualifier Jundel Mazon, 9-4, na ikinatuwa ng kanyang mga kababayang Davaoenos.

Susunod na kalaban ni Valle si two-time World Juniors campaigner Rene Mar David, tumalo kay local qualifier Danny Trazona, 9-5.

Samantala, kinailangang bumangon ni former world no.1 Dennis Orcollo mula sa three-rack deficit upang igupo ang kapwa Bugsy boy na si Richard Pornelosa, 9-7, at nanatiling buhay sa kanyang tsansa sa unang titulo sa series na coorganized ng Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) sa pamumuno ni president Atty. Vic Rodriguez.
