Donaire puntirya ang korona sa mas mataas na timbang

MANILA, Philippines - Kung matutuloy, pupuntiryahin ni world flyweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire, Jr. ang kanyang ikalawang world boxing crown sa mas mataas na weight division.

Nauna nang itinakda sa Agosto 22 sa AT&T Park sa San Francisco, California, hahamunin ni Donaire si Jose Lopez para sa suot nitong World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight belt.

Kasalukuyang tangan ng 26-anyos na si Donaire ang flyweight titles ng International Boxing Federation (IBF) at ng International Boxing Organization (IBO).

Ang naturang IBF at IBO flyweight belts ay inagaw ni Donaire kay Armenian Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan via fifth-round TKO noong Hulyo ng 2007.

Matagumpay na naidepensa ng tubong General Santos City ang nasabing dalawang korona laban kina Mexican Luis Maldonado, South African Mthalane Moruti at Mexican-American Raul Martinez.

Ibinabandera ni Donaire ang kanyang 21-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 14 KOs, samantalang tangan naman ng 37-anyos na si Lopez ang 39-7-2 (32 KOs).

Kagaya ni Donaire, sinubukan rin ng Puerto Rican champion na mang-agaw ng titulo sa flyweight class ngunit nabigo kina Alberto Jimenez, Carlos Salazar, Isidro Garcia at Fernando Montiel.

Matapos matalo kay Montiel via unanimous decision noong Setyembre 8 ng 2001, kumayod ng 15 sunod na panalo si Lopez.

Tinalo ni Lopez si Thai Pramuansak Posuwn via unanimous decision para sa bakanteng WBO super flyweight crown noong Marso 28 nitong taon. (Russell Cadayona)
