Tournament for Peace inilunsad

MANILA, Philippines – Layon na pagyamanin ang talento ng Pinoy sa larangan ng boksing, ilulunsad ni President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo sa katapusan ng buwan ang isang torneong maglilinang at hahasa sa mga amateur boxers mula sa military services, national police at sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon- ang Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

Kasabay ng pagbubukas ng “Tournament for Peace and Understanding,” isasabay ang inagurasyon ng Philippine Sports Commission-Amateur Commission- Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines na gaganapin sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, na tatampukan ng non-RP team boxers na may 48 kgs to 75 kg. weight.

Para sa inaabangang pagbubukas ng torneo, pamumunuan ni PSC chairman Harry Angping, katuwang ang legendary boxer na si Manny Pacquiao, telecommunications mogul at ABAP chairman Manny V. Pa-ngilinan, ABAP President Ricky Vargas at iba pang personalidad para lalong pasayahin ang natu-rang boxfest.

“It is designed to foster camaraderie through sports among the military, the police, the MILF and the MNLF. And that instead of fighting it out in the battlefields, they can duke it out in the boxing ring and then embrace each other after the bouts,” wika ni ABAP executive director Ed Picson.

Samantala, ang ating Pambansang kamao na si Manny Pacquiao na tumalo kay British Champion Ricky Hatton sa Las Vegas noong May 3 ay tinalagang ambassador for peace and unity ni Pangulong Arroyo.

Pangangasiwaan ni Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales ang pagbabasbas sa mga ga-gamitin para sa torneong.

Tinatayang kabibilangan ng 3 hanggang 6 partisipante kada koponan ang kumpetisyong tatagal ng 3 hanggang 4 araw. (Sarie Nerine Francisco)
