PANABO, Davao del Norte, Philippines -- Malamang na hindi maidepensa ni Sta. Lucia high-flyer Kelly Williams ang kanyang slam dunk title dahil nananakit ang tiyan nito sa pagsasara ng 2009 Motolite PBA All-Star Festivities sa Araneta Coliseum bukas.
“Not likely when it’s like this,” ani Williams. “My wife thinks that it’s food poisoning. I’m very weak because nothing is staying up, not even liquid. I’ll probably be checking into a hospital when I get home (to Manila ).”
Habang sinusulat ang balitang ito, pilit pa ring kumukuha ng biyaheng pabalik ng Maynila si Williams.
“Kelly was visited by a doctor in his hotel room, and the doctor said he’s so weak, almost dehydrated,” wika ni PBA media bureau chief Willy Marcial.
“I drank some bad water before, but not like this,” pahayag ni Williams na nagsimulang makaramdam ng pananakit noong umaga pagkatapos ng RP-North All Star game sa Victorias noong Miyerkules ng gabi.
Hindi nakalaro ang Fil-Am forward sa RP-South All Star game kagabi at malamang na hindi rin siya makakalaro sa Araneta sa Linggo.
Idedepensa ni Williams ang slam dunk crown niya kontra kina dating three-time winner KG Canaleta at dalawa pang exciting rim-rattlers na sina Gabe Norwood at Jared Dillinger.
Upang madagdagan ang kasiyahan ng event makikipagtagisan din sina import David Noel ng Ginebra, Anthony Johnson ngSta. Lucia, Gabe Freeman ng San Miguel Beer, at Jahmar Thorpe ng Purefoods sa magwawaging local para sa dream duel.
Haharap din sa malaking hamon sina Obstacle course ruler Willie Miller at three-point king Renren Ritualo sa iba pang All-Star Skills Competition. (Nelson Beltran)
