'60-40' din ang gusto ni Dela Hoya sa kanyang huling laban

MANILA, Philippines - Kagaya ng kanyang naunang percentage split kay Manny Pacquiao, nasa ’60-40’ rin ang desisyon ni world six-division champion Oscar Dela Hoya kaugnay sa kanyang tuluyan nang pagreretiro.

Ayon sa 36-anyos na si Dela Hoya, naguguluhan pa siya kung itutuloy pa rin niya ang makulay niyang professional boxing career o isasabit na ang kanyang mga boxing gloves bilang tanda ng pagreretiro.

“I’m still confused,” wika kahapon ni Dela Hoya sa panayam ng Los Angeles Times mula sa kanyang tahanan sa San Juan, Puerto Rico. “I’m torn between saying, ‘It’s over. ‘Bye. I don’t have it anymore,’ and knowing if I’ll be able to live with that. It’s a tough decision, not easy at all.”

Isang eight-round TKO ang iniskor ng Filipino world four-division titlist na si Pacquiao sa kanilang non-title welterweight fight ni Dela Hoya noong Disyembre 6 ng 2008 sa MGM Grand Garden Arena sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Inamin ng 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games gold medalist na wala na ang kanyang dating porma at lakas. 

Mula sa pagiging isang light middleweight, bumaba ng timbang si Dela Hoya upang sagupain si Pacquiao sa welterweight sa kanilang “Dream Match”.

Samantala, kinondena naman ni Dela Hoya ang ginawang pandaraya ni Mexican Antonio Margarito sa kanilang laban ni American Sugar Shane Mosley kung saan naagaw ng huli sa una ang World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight crown noong Enero sa Staples Center.

Binawi ng California State Athletic Commission ang lisensya ni Margarito, nasa kampo ng Top Rank Promotions ni Bob Arum, nang mapatunayang nagpalaman ng dalawang gauze knuckle pads caked sa kanyang boxing gloves bago labanan si Mosley.

“Fighters know who’s wrapping our hands, and what’s in there,” ani Dela Hoya. “What Margarito said about not knowing is baloney. . . . Boxing’s dangerous. And when you have something like a rock in your hand wraps, that’s criminal and disgusting to me.” (Russell Cadayona)
