5 na ang gustong kumalaban kay Pacman

Idagdag na ang pangalan ni world welterweight champion Andre Berto sa listahan nina Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Antonio Margarito at Miguel Cotto sa mga gustong kumalaban kay Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao ngayong 2009.

Ayon sa 25-anyos na si Berto, ang kasalukuyang World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight titlist, gusto niyang makasagupa ang mga matitinding boksingerong nasa welterweight division.

At isa na rito ang 30-anyos na si Pacquiao, umakyat sa welterweight category mula sa lightweight class kung saan niya tinalo si light middleweight Oscar Dela Hoya via eight-round TKO sa kanilang non-title fight noong Disyembre 6.

“There’s so many talented guys in the division and so many big champions that I’ve been watching since I was young, I still feel I’m the new kid in the boxing game,” ani Berto. “I still look at myself as the underdog in my division. I’m still hungry.”

Bago mangyari ang paghahamon ng 5-foot-8 na si Berto, itataya muna niya ang kanyang WBC welter-weight crown sa ikalawang sunod na pagkakataon kay Luis Collazo sa Enero 17.

Tangan ni Berto ang 23-0 win-loss ring record kasama ang 19 KOs, habang may 29-3 (14 KOs) naman si Collazo, hinawakan ang naturang WBC welterweight belt noong 2005 bago ito naagaw ni Hatton.

“We are not looking past Luis Collazo,” wika ni promoter Luo DiBella. “Collazo is a very tough fight, but Andre would sign to fight Pacquiao tomorrow, provided that Manny beats Hatton in May. Berto would even come down to 145. And the winner can fight Margarito.”

Nakatakda ang world light welterweight championship nina Pacquiao at Hatton, itataya ang kanyang suot na International Boxing Organization (IBO) title, sa Mayo 2.
