Tokushima team members mananatili sa RP-5

Papanatiliin ni coach Yeng Guiao ang core ng RP Team na sumabak sa FIBA-Asia men’s championship noong nakaraang taon at apat hanggang limang players lamang ang kanyang idadagdag.

Ito ang pahayag ni Guiao sa council of coaches meeting sa EDSA Shangri-La noong Lunes ng gabi.

“At least 60 to 70 percent of that RP-Tokushima team will be retained. Mga apat o lima na lang ang idagdag,” sabi ni Guiao matapos ang kanyang consultation session kasama ang mga dating coaches ng PBA-backed RP teams.

Nasa meeting sina Robert Jaworski, coach ng unang first all-pro squad na pumangalawa sa China sa Beijing Asian Games noong 1990.

Naroroon din sina Norman Black, 1994 RP-Hiroshima mentor, Jong Uichico, humawak ng 2002 RP-Busan selection, at Chot Reyes, ang bumuo ng 2007 RP-Tokushima Olympic qualifier squad kung saan kukunin ni Guiao ang pito hanggang walong players para sa 2009 FIBA-Asia World Championship qualifier sa Guangzhou, China.

Base sa exposure at statistics sa nakaraang qualifying tournament para 2008 Beijing Olympics na ginanap sa Tokushima, Japan, inaasahang makakasama sina Kelly Williams ng Sta. Lucia Realty, Asi Taulava ng Coca-Cola, Mick Pennisi ng San Miguel Beer, Jayjay Helterbrand at Mark Caguioa ng Ginebra, Jimmy Alapag ng Talk ‘N Text, Gabe Norwood ng Rain or Shine, at Kerby Raymundo ng Purefoods.

Inaasahan kukunin din ang 6’10 na si Japeth Aguilar ng Western Kentucky, anak ng dating Northern Consolidated center Peter Aguilar, na manggagaling pa sa Amerika.

Posibleng kunin din sina James Yap ng Purefoods, Willie Miller at Sonny Thoss ng Alaska, Cyrus Baguio ng Red Bull, Arwind Santos ng Air21, Ryan Reyes ng Sta. Lucia, at Jay-R Reyes ng Rain or Shine.

Inaasahang ihahayag ang 15-man line-up sa loob ng dalawang linggo para masimulan ang practice sa Nov. 17 sa Ynares Sports Coliseum sa Pasig. (Mae Balbuena)
