PBL susunod sa SBP

Bagamat hindi kumbinsido sa pagkuha kay Serbian coach Rajko Toroman bilang project director, walang magagawa ang Philippine Basketball League (PBL) kundi ang sundin ang anu-mang programa ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Ayon kay PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad, malinaw ang nakasaad sa kanilang Constitution and By-Laws kaugnay sa pagpapailalim sa kapangyarihan ng SBP ni Manny V. Pangilinan.

“We are making the PBL available for the national team for both men and women,” wika ni Trinidad. “Under sa charter namin, we are under the SBP. So kung ano ‘yung direction that they will take, we have to follow that.”

Mariing kinondena ng Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines (BCAP) ang naturang pagpapapirma ni SBP executive director at dating PBA Commissioner Noli Eala kay Toroman sa isang three-year contract bilang project director.

Plano ni Eala na si Toroman ang maghahanap at mamimili ng 15 hanggang 18 players na bubuo sa kanyang itatayong national pool na ilalahok sa mga torneo sa 2010 matapos ang kampanya ng RP Team ni Yeng Guiao sa 2009 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships.

Ayon kina Guiao at BCAP president Chito Narvasa, dapat munang iprisinta sa kanila ng SBP at ni Toroman ang kanyang programa pati na ang kanyang tunay na papel na gagampanan.

“If he wants to handle ‘yung grassroots program natin at may maituturo siya sa atin kung paano lalaki ng 7-foot-2, 6’11 ang mga players natin dito, iyon ang pinakamagandang magagawa ni Toroman,” wika ni Trinidad.

Si Toroman ang tumulong sa Iran sa paghahari sa 2007 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships sa Tukoshima, Japan kung saan tumapos bilang ninth-placer ang Nationals ni Chot Reyes. (Russell Cadayona)
