DAVAO CITY — Ipinakita ni  Efren “Bata” Reyes na nanatili itong matatag at mahirap tibagin sa sports kung saan kinokonsidera itong alamat nang gapiin niya ang kapwa niya double world champion na si Ronnie alcano sa ‘dream challenge match’ ng First Senate President Manny Villar Cup Davao Leg noong Saba-do ng gabi sa Atrium ng Gaisano Mall dito.

Isang mahusay na perfor-mance na tinampukan ng mahika ang ipinamalas ng 54 anyos na pool maestro upang maitala ang 5-1 panalo laban kay Alcano sa rotation match na sinaksihan ng nasiyahang 7,000 Davaoeño na sumaksi sa event na ipiniprisinta ng Villards: Tulong sa Pagsulong ng Philippine Sports, sa pakikipagtambalan ng   Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP).

“I’m very happy that I’ve won as I really want to entertain the crowd, which is one of the best I’ve seen,” ani Reyes, na nagtapos na ikalima sa tampok na Pro elite division na pinag-wagian ni Roberto Gomez, ng ikaapat na yugto ng island-hopping event na ito na hatid ng Camella Communities.

“I hope I inspired the Da-vaoeños into taking this sport, which, as Senator Villar said, is ours,” dagdag ng charis-matic icon.

Sa laban na sinaksihan nina  Senate President Manny Villar, Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte, Davao Congressman Vincent Garcia at Nacionalista Party spokesman Gilbert Remulla, napagwagian ni Re-yes ang lag matapos makipagpalitan ng safety shots sa kanyang kalaban at nilinis ang opening rack para sa 1-0.

Nagawang itabla ni Alcano ang iskor sa 1-1 pero hang-gang doon na lang ang kanyang nagawa nang ibulsa ni Reyes ang apat na sumunod na racks at isara ang laban.
