WBA interim title ang paglalabanan nina Banal at Concepcion

Nilinaw kahapon ng World Boxing Association (WBA) ang estado ng banggaan nina Filipino AJ “Bazooka” Banal at Panamanian Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion sa Sabado sa Cebu City Coliseum.

Sa WBA Resolution SF 115-042008001, isinaad ni WBA Executive Vice-President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza na ang labanan nina Banal at Concepcion ay para lamang sa WBA super flyweight interim title.

At kasabay nito, nagdesisyon naman ang WBA Championship Committee na kilalanin ang labanan nina Japanese No. 1 Nobuo Nashiro at No. 2 Kohei Kono bilang championship fight para sa bakanteng WBA super flyweight crown sa Setyembre 15.

Dahilan rito, ang mananalo sa pagitan nina Banal at Concepcion ang siyang hahamon sa mananaig naman kina Nashiro at Kono sa championship fight ng dalawang Japanese fighters.

“If the Nashiro vs Kono vacant title bout ends in a draw but the Banal vs Concepcion championship bout has a winner, he would be considered the regular champion but must fight in 120 days versus the leading available contender,” sabi sa nasabing resolusyon ng WBA Championship Committee. 

Sa kabila nito, handang-handa naman ang 19-anyos na si Banal para sa kanilang interim fight ng 26-anyos na si Concepcion.

 “Wala namang problema kay AJ. Physically and mentally, nakahanda na talaga siya,” wika ni Filipino trainer Edito Villamor sa tubong Bukidnon na si Banal, nagdadala ng 17-0-1 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 14 KOs, habang may 10-2-1 (6 KOs) card naman si Concepcion.

 Ang nasabing WBA super flyweight belt ay binakante ni Venezuelan Alexander Munoz matapos lumaban kay Mexican Christian Mijares kung saan siya natalo via split decision noong Mayo 17. (Russell Cadayona)
