DLSU mahihirapan sa pagdepensa ng UAAP title

Kagaya ng kanilang pagbangon matapos ang one-year suspension para makuha ang kampeonato noong nakaraang taon, inaasahan ni coach Franz Pumaren na mas mahihirapan ang De La Salle na magdepensa ng korona sa 71st UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

“Definitely, we are going up against some teams na luma-kas because of their effective recruitment program and some who have players na nag-matured na,” ani Pumaren kahapon. “For sure, it’s going to be a balanced tournament and an exciting season.”

Sa kabila ng itinayong 14-0 sweep ng University of the East sa elimination round para sa outright finals seat, winalis pa rin sila ng De La Salle University, 2-0, sa kanilang best-of-three championship series.

Sa pagtatapos ng eliminas-yon, nagposte ang UE ng 14-0 rekord kasunod ang DLSU (10-5), Ateneo (9-6), FEU (8-6), UST (8-6), NU (6-8), AdU (2-12) at UP (0-14).

Nakatakdang magkita ang Tamaraws ni Glenn Capacio at Falcons ng nagbabalik na si Leo Austria sa pagbubukas ng torneo sa Sabado sa Araneta Coliseum sa alas-2 ng hapon kasunod ang pang alas-4 na upakan ng Red Warriors ni Dindo Pumaren at Growling Tigers ni Pido Jarencio.

Bago ang torneo, inangkin muna ng UE ni Dindo Puma-ren ang 2008 Filoil-Flying V, habang pinagharian na-man ng Ateneo ni Norman Black, na ipaparada si dating San Sebastian Staglet Ryan Buenafe, ang Nike Summer league.

Hindi na makikita sa bench ng Red Warriors ni Dindo sina 6-foot-6 Mark Borboran at 6’4 Kelvin Gregorio para sa taong ito. (Russell Cadayona)
