Nietes sasabay kay Donaire na magdedepensa

Hindi lamang si Filipino world flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. ang magdedepensa ng kanyang korona sa Abril 4 sa Dubai, United Arab Emirates kundi maging si world minimumweight titlist Donnie “Ahas’ Nietes.

Ipagtatanggol ng 25-anyos na si Nietes ang kanyang suot na World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight belt kontra kay Columbian challenger Daniel “El Olimpico” Reyes.

Dadalhin ni Nietes, umiskor ng isang unanimous decision laban kay Pornsawan Kratingda-enggym ng Thailand noong Setyembre 30 sa Cebu City, ang 22-1-3 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 13 KO’s, ha-bang si Reyes ay may  39-5-1 (30 KO’s) slate.

Ang 35-anyos na si Reyes ang tumatayong mandatory challenger para sa suot na WBO minimum-weight title ni Nietes, tubong Murcia, Bacolod City.

Idedepensa naman ng 25-anyos na si Donaire, nagbabandera ng 19-1 (12 KOs) card, sa ika-lawang sunod na pagkakataon ang kanyang ha-wak na International Boxing Federation (IBF) at International Boxing Organization (IBO) laban kay Lebanese challenger Hussein Hussein.

Bago harapin si Hussein, nagdadala ng 31-4 (24 KOs) slate, matagumpay na naipagtanggol ni Donaire ang kanyang IBF at IBO flyweight belts kay Mexican challenger Luis Maldonado via eight-round TKO noong Dis-yembre. (RCadayona)
