RP shooters sumablay

BANGKOK -- Nagtapos si rifle shooter Nicole Frances Medina bilang ikasiyam sa 18 kalahok at hindi naman nakalusot sina pistol gunners Carolino Gonzales at Susan Aguado sa opening round ng kanilang unang event sa maalat na simula ng RP Team sa 24th Southeast Asian Games dito.

Ang unang individual gold medal ay napunta kay Myanmar shooter Saw Than Than at ang unang team championship ay nakopo ng Malaysia matapos masilat ang host country sa event na inaasahang sila ang magdomina.

Nabokya ang Filipino shooters sa unang araw ng aksiyon sa Thai shooting range sa loob ng malawak na Hua Mark Sports Complex na siya ring naging venue ng 1998 Asian Games.

Bahagyang inangat ng trap shotgun trio nina Jethro Dionisio, Erwin Ang at Carlos Carag ang araw ng RP shoot team matapos pumangatlo sa unang tatlong rounds ng kanilang event.

Ang huling dalawang round at ang finals ay nakatakda ngayon sa  kasabay ng kampanya nina Gonzales sa 50m pistol event at nina Emerito Concepcion, Darryl Sandoval at Antonio Hermoso sa 10m air rifle.

Ang RP trap team ay pumapangatlo sa kanilang 185 sa likod ng Singapore (198) at  Malaysia (188). Lamang ang mga Pinoy shooters ng tatlong shots sa Thais papasok sa fourth at fifth rounds ngayong umaga.

“It was indeed a slow start but we may pick up the momentum tomorrow (ngayon),” ani rifle coach Bartolome Teyab. “Nikki (Nicole Frances) was our best bet today. She could have won a medal if not for her poor finish.”
