RP boxers wala pa ring suwerte

CHICAGO, Illinois -- Isa na namang dagok ang pilit na nilunok ng mga Pinoy boxers nang mabigo si featherweight Charly Suarez kay Mongolian  Enkhzorig Zorigtbaatar, 10-13, noong Miyerkules sa  International Amateur Boxing Association World Boxing Championships sa University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion dito.

Ito ang ikatlong sunod na kabiguan nalasap ng RP Team na kumakampanya dito para makakuha ng slot sa Olympics matapos mabigo si bantamweight Joan Tipon at light welterweight Delfin Boholst na nabigo sa kanilang laban noong Martes ng gabi.

Apat sa original na seven-man RP PLDT-Smart boxing team ang natitirang may pag-asang makakuha ng puwesto sa 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Sisimulan ni flyweight Violito Payla ang kanyang kampanya sa Huwebes laban kay Welshman Andrew Selby sa pang-umagang aksiyon. Sina lightweight Genebert Basadre at welterweight Wilfredo Lopez ay lalaban din sa gabi.

Makakalaban ni Basadre ang  Bulgarianpride na si Ognyan Kolev habang makakasagupa ni  Lopez si Velibor Vidic.

Nakabye ang beteranong si Harry Tañamor sa lightflyweight class at isa ring Welshman na si Nasir Mohammed ang kanyang haharapin sa October 28.

‘‘Charly fought well despite being a first-timer in the worlds, but the Mongolian fought excellently,’’ ani national head coach Pat Gaspi.

Masama ang naging simula ng mga Pinoy boxers sa torneo matapos matalo sina bantamweight Tipon at lightwelterweight Boholst sa kani-kanilang laban.
