2-golds pangako ng RP cyclists

Sa pagbabalik ng mga dating national riders at sa likod ng isang pamosong Fil-Am rider, kumpiyansa ang Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (PhilCycling) na dalawang gintong medalya ang kaya nilang iuwi sa darating na 24th Southeast Asian Games sa Thailand.

Nagbalik na sa koponan sina Victor Espiritu at Warren Davadilla, habang papadyak naman si Steve Pelaez sa nasabing biennial event suot ang uniporme ng Team Philippines.

Noong 2003 nakakuha ang RP Team ng 1 gold, 3 silver at 2 bronze medals sa Vietnam,  bago ito napaganda sa 2-4-3 sa 2005 Philippine SEA Games.     

“I think this time mas maganda pa ang magiging performance natin compared sa last two edition ng SEA Games. I can say na kaya nating makakuha ng two gold medals sa Thailand this December,” ani national coach Jomel Lorenzo.

Isa na sa dalawang gintong sinasabi ni Lorenzo ay maaaring manggaling kay Pelaez, ipinanganak sa Makati City bago nagtungo sa San Francisco, California para mag-aral.

Bukod kina Pelaez, Espiritu at Davadilla, nasa men’s team rin sina Joey Barba, Julius Mark Bonzo, Paterno Curtan, Frederick Feliciano, Reinhard at Ronald Gorantes, Carlo Jazul, Arnold Marcelo, Jan Paul Morales, Eusebio Quinones, Lloyd Lucien Reynante at Nino Surban. Nasa women’s squad sina Maritess Bitbit, Irish Valenzuela at Apryl Eppinger. (R. Cadayona)
