Donaire maghahanda na

Matapos ang kanyang halos isang buwan na bakasyon sa bansa, pag-hahandaan na ni world flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. ang kanyang unang title defense.

Ayon sa 24-anyos na tubong General Santos City, handa niyang labanan ang kahit na sinong gustong humamon sa kanyang suot na International Boxing Federation (IBF) at International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight crowns.

“Kahit sino diyan na gustong lumaban sa akin I’m all out for it,” sabi ni Donaire, nagbabandera ng 18-1 win-loss ring record kasama ang 11 knockouts, na nakabase sa San Leandro, California.

Inagaw ni Donaire ang IBF at IBO titles mula kay Armenian fighter Vic Darchinyan noong Hulyo 8 sa pama-magitan ng isang fifth round KO sa harap ng nagitlang manonood sa Harbour Yard sa Bridgeport sa Connec-ticutt, USA.

Kabilang sa mga nasa flyweight division na maaaring makasagupa ni Donaire ay sina Daisuke Naito ng Japan, umagaw sa World Boxing Council (WBC) belt ni Pongsaklek Wonjongkam ng Thailand noong Hulyo 18, Omar Andres Narvaez ng Puerto Rico.

Si Narvaez ay nagbabandera ng 24-0 card kasama ang 11 KOs.

“Pangarap ko talagang ma-unify ‘yung IBF at WBC titles,” sabi ni Donaire. “Im a boxer and my mentality is to fight everyone who wants to fight me. But up to now I haven’t heard anything from my promoter and from my manager.”

Nangako naman ang US promoter ni Donaire na si Gary Shaw na mamimili ng isa ring world flyweight champion para sa isang unification bout bago matapos ang 2007. (Russell Cadayona)
