Pacquiao, Boxer of the Year sa 1st GAB Convention

Ang reigning WBC International Junior Lightweight champion at ang People’s champion ng bansa na si Manny Pacquiao ang idedeklarang Boxer of the Year sa 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention sa April 19-22 sa Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila.

Si Pacquiao ang magbibigay kulay sa Gala Night and Awarding Ceremonies sa April 20 kasama ang iba pang Filipino world boxing champions mula sa henerasyon ni Pancho Villa noong 1929 at Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde noong 60s hanggang sa kasalukuyang Pacman era.

Walang iba kundi si President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang maggagawad ng national awards sa mga world boxing champions sa kanyang Presidential event na inorganisa ng Games and Amusement Board (GAB) sa ilalim ni chair-man Eric R. Buhain, kasama si Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita at Presidential Chief of Staff Mike Defensor.

Sa temang Building the Nation’s Champions Towards Global Recognition, layunin sa four-day convention na mapaunlad ang professional boxing sa bansa.

"This is history in the making for our pro sporting industry in the country, much more in pro boxing," ani Buhain na nagsabi ring sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon sapul nang itatag ang GAB na tagabantay sa lahat ng professional sports sa bansa, ang paglulunsad ng Presidential priority program na ito ay para sa pagbuo ng policies at avenues para sa common welfare at protection ng mga Filipino fighters at future generations ng mga aspiring pro boxers.

Magkakaroon ng special boxing event sa Rajah Sulaiman sa Malate sa April 21 na tinaguriang Rumble at the Bay.
