Differently-abled athletes di kasama sa insentibo

Walang matatanggap na cash incentives ang mga differently-abled athletes na sumikwat ng medalya sa katatapos na 3rd ASEAN Para Games.

Ito ang paglilinaw ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) hinggil sa paghihintay ng naturang mga atletang tumubog ng ginto, pilak at tansong medalya sa nasabing biennial event na inorganisa ng Philippine Sports Association for the Disabled-Athletes (PHILSPADA).

Ayon sa Republic Act 9064, pawang ang mga gold, silver at bronze medalists lamang sa Southeast Asian Games ang siyang makakatanggap ng cash incentives na iniluluwal ng Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

"Hindi kami masyadong pumapel diyan dahil sariling organization ‘yan ng PHILSPADA at ng ASEAN Para Games," ani Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez. "Tumulong lang kami diyan."

Sa RA 9064, ang gold medal winner sa individual event sa SEA Games ay tatanggap ng P100,000, samantalang ang silver at bronze medalists ay makakakuha ng P50,000 at P10,000, ayon sa pagkaka-sunod.

Nagbigay ang PSC ng halos P20 milyon para sa pangangasiwa ng PHIL-SPADA, pinamumunuan ni dating PSC Commissioner Mike Barredo, sa 3rd ASEAN Para Games.

Kasama na rito ang $300 allowance ng 750 differently-abled athletes sa kabuuan ng naturang torneo na nilahukan ng nagdedepensang overall champion Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myan-mar, Singapore, Brunei, Laos at East Timor.

Sa nasabing sports meet, kumolekta ang Team Philip-pines ng kabuuang 22 gold, 41 silver at 37 bronze medals upang pumuwesto sa No. 6. (Russell Cadayona)
