Para sa bansa, Danila at Kalaw muling lalangoy

Matapos maghayag ng kanilang pagreretiro, muling magsusuot ng uniporme ng Philippine Team sina swimmers Liza Danila at Mark Kalaw.

Kinumpirma na nina Danila at Kalaw, kapwa nag-uwi ng medalya mula sa Southeast Asian Games sa Vietnam noong 2003, ang kanilang partisipasyon para sa idaraos na Bank of Commerce Open Swimming Championships ngayong hapon sa Rizal Memorial Swimming Center.

"It’s time to move on," sabi ng 23-anyos na si Danila. "There’s really no reward for bearing our flag and in representing our country in major tournament."

Ang naturang torneo, inorganisa ng Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA), ay magsisilbing try-out para sa komposisyon ng national squad sa 2005 SEA Games.

Dalawang silver medal ang nilangoy ni Danila sa 2003 Vietnam SEA Games mula sa women’s 100-meter at 200-meter backstroke at isang bronze medal sa 4x200-meter freestyle relay event.

Kabilang naman si Kalaw sa men’s team na kumopo ng gold medal sa 2x400m relay event sa 2003 Vietnam SEA Games.

Naglabas na ng tentative list ang PASA para sa bubuo ng national team sa pangunguna nina Danila, Kalaw, Miguel Mendoza, Miguel Molina at Fil-American James Bernard Walsh, sumabak sa 2004 Olympic Games sa Athens, Greece. (Russell Cadayona)
