$100,000 electronic scoreboard ilalagay sa Rizal Memorial track oval

Isang electronic score-board para sa Rizal Memorial Track and Field Oval na nagkakahalaga ng $100,000 ang inaprubahan ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco, Jr. para gamitin sa darating na 23rd Southeast Asian Games.

Ayon kay Richie Garcia, Commissioner sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at chairman ng Sports Operations Committee ng Philippine SEA Games Organi-zing Committee (PHIL-SOC), mas mababa ang naturang halaga sa nau-na nilang napag-usapan.

"That is way below the projected cost in the beginning that if we were to replace it aabot ng mga P40 million," sabi ni Garcia sa nasabing elec-tronic scoreboard na mula sa Malaysia.

Sinabi ni Garcia na ang gumawa ng lumang electronic scoreboard sa Rizal Memorial Track and Field Oval noong 1991 Manila SEA Games ang siya ring magkakabit ng bago.

"Ang gagawa nitong bagong electronic score-board ay ang mismong gumawa nito noong 1991 Manila SEA Games. They will bring in new parts for the scoreboard that will cost mga P5.6 million, which is way, way below our projected cost," ani Garcia.

Imbes na manghiram sa Vietnam, naisip ni Cojuangco na bumili na lamang ng bagong electronic scoreboard para sa track oval na hindi lamang magagamit sa 2005 SEA Games kundi maging sa mga susunod pang international at local tourna-ments.

Nauna nang nag-alok ang Vietnam ng kanilang electronic scoreboard na ginamit sa 2003 Vietnam SEA Games.

"We did not accept their offer not because we did not like it. Pero naisip ni Congressman Cojuangco na mas mabuting bumili na lang tayo ng bago kesa manghiram pa kasi gagastos rin naman tayo sa pag-shipped niyan dito," ani Garcia. (Russell Cadayona)
