RP-5 para sa FIBA-Asia Cup inihayag

Inihayag kahapon ni National coach Chot Reyes ang official lineup ng Philippine team na makikipaglaban sa FIBA-Asia Champions Cup na magsisimula sa Linggo sa Araneta Coliseum.

Ang lineup ay binubuo nina Jimmy Alapag, Willie Miller at Yancy de Ocam-po ng Talk N Text, Renren Ritualo ng FedEx, Dondon Hontiveros at Nic Belasco ng San Miguel, Tony dela Cruz ng Shell, Kerby Raymundo ng Purefoods, Mark Caguioa at Romel Adducul ng Ginebra, Rafi Reavis ng Coca-Cola, at Sonny Thoss ng Alaska.

Hindi nakasama sa team dahil sa injuries sina Danny Seigle ng SMB, Brandon Cablay ng Alaska at Jayjay Helterbrand ng Ginebra.

Ang Philippines ay ka-grupo ng Kazakhstan, India, Iran at defending champion Lebanon, habang ang ibang grupo ay ang Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait at Syria.

Hindi kasama ang South Korea na umayaw sa huling oras.

"Ang lakas ng bracket natin. Yung Iran lang, they will be coming with their national team including at least one 7’3 player," ani Reyes. "But what’s beautiful is we’ll have four tough games immediately. It will give us an opportunity to take a closer look at the players we really want."

Makakatulong naman ni Reyes sa bench sina dating Asian Games coach Jong Uichico ng San Miguel, at ang mga assistants na sina Binky Favis ng Ginebra at Aboy Castro ng Coke.

Ang Champions Cup tourney ay ang una sa tatlong commitment na napagkasunduan sa Memorandum of Agreement sa pagitan ng PBA at ng Basketball Association of the Philippines. Ang dalawa pang ibang torneo ay ang William Jones Cup sa Taiwan sa July at Asian Championship pagkalipas ng isang buwan.

Umaasa ang Philippine team na magagamit nila ang Champions Cup bilang springboard para sa mas malaking Las Vegas Summer League sa July 15-21 at Jones Cup July 23-30.
