National Open Invitationals tatakbo na

Masusubukan na ngayon ang kakayahan ng mga national athletics team sa pagsisimula ng aksiyon sa 2005 National Open Invitational Championships sa Rizal Memorial Track Oval.

Labing limang gintong medalya ang nakataya ngayon sa pagsisimula ng apat na araw na track fest na lalahukan din ng mahigit 100 foreign athletes mula sa siyam na bansa at isang Fil-Am team.

Ang torneong ito ay susukat ng kakayahan ng pambansang koponan na naghahanda para sa Southeast Asian Games na iho-host ng bansa sa November 27 hanggang December 5, at magsisilbing tryout para sa national team.

"I expect our local athletes to go all out since this is the basis for the composition of the Philippine Team that will compete in the coming 23rd Southeast Asian Games," wika ni Philippine Amatuer Track and Field Asso-ciation (PATAFA) president Go Teng Kok.

Kabilang sa mga bansang kalahok mula sa Southeast Asia ay ang Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Taipei, Brunei, Hongkong, Macau at Sabah Malaysia. Ang iba pang kalahok ay ang People’s Republic of China at ang Fil-Am team ng Philippine Overseas Development Committee (PODC).

Pangungunahan nina 2003 SEA Games gold medalist Eduardo Bue-navista, beterano ding sina Lerma Buluitan-Gabito, John Lozada, Rene Herrera ang kampanya ng Pilipinas.

Pangungunahan nina Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) head Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco at Philippine Sports Com-mission (PSC) Officer-in-Charge William ‘Butch’ Ramirez ang mga bisita kasama si Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez. Si Cojuangco ang panauhing pandangal, si Ramirez ang magbibigay ng welcome remarks at si Fernandez ang magdedeklara ng pormal na pagbubukas ng kompetisyon. (Ulat ni CVOchoa)
