GTK nagpasalamat kay PGMA

Ipinahayag kahapon ni athletics president Go Teng Kok ang kanyang lubos na pasasalamat sa Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sa pagpoproklama niya ng taong 2003 bilang Asian Athletics Championships Year.

Ayon kay Go ang nasabing presidential proclamation ang maglalagay sa malalim na preparasyon na gagawin ng Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association sa pagho-host nila ng naturang tournament sa ikatlong pagkakataon matapos ang tatlong dekada.

Ipinalabas ni President Macapagal Arroyo ang Proclamation 432 noong Martes na nag-uutos sa Organizing Committee sa kooperasyon ng Philippine Sports Commission na ‘to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the sporting event.’

"I owe President Macapagal Arroyo a huge debt of gratitude. We can now move without delay and enlist the support of various government agencies and instru-mentalities to ensure the success of the tournament."

Pinasalamatan rin ni Go, na nakatakdang umalis sa Linggo patungong Paris upang kumampanya para sa isang upuan sa council sa international Association of Athletics Federation si PSC Chairman Eric Buhain sa kanyang page-endorso ng nasabing presidential edict.

"Chairman Buhain positively pushed for it. He understood our predicament and I am very glad that things are now developing promptly."

Nangako rin si Buhain ng P16 milyon financial assistance sa Asian championships.
