2003 ideneklarang Asian Athletics Championshios Year ni GMA

Idineklara kahapon ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang 2003 bilang Asian Athletics Championships Year.

Isinama sa Proclamation No. 432, ang nasabing presidential order ang magpapaganda at magpapataas ng international na imahe ng bansa sa sports kung saan ang Philippines ay nagpreprepara para sa ikatlong pagho-host ng prestihiyosong Asian Athletics Association championships na nakatakda sa September 20-23 sa Rizal track and field stadium.

Ang apat na araw na tournament ay tatampukan ng congress sa Sep-tember 19 ang pinakamalaki at pinakaimportanteng sports spectacle na gaganapin sa kontinente ngayong taon. Inutusan rin ng Pangulong Arroyo ang Organizing Commit-tee na makipag-kooperasyon sa Philippine Sports Commission na "to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the sporting event."

"All heads of departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, local govern-ment units, government-owned and controlled corporations and instrumentalities of the government particularly the Philippine Sports Commission are hereby directed to give full assistance to the Organizing Committee of the 15th Asian Track and Field Cham-pionships," ang nakasaad sa presidential proclamation.

Sinabi naman ni PSC Chairman Eric Buhain, na nauna ng i-endorso ang request ni PATAFA president Go Teng Kok para sa nasabing presidential proclamation sa Malacañang na ang naturang government sports agency ay buo ang suporta sa kanilang intensiyon at objectives sa proclamation ni GMA.

Sa kasalukuyan, umabot na sa 35 bansa ang nagkumpirma ng kanilang paglahok sa pamumuno ng power house China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Sri Lanka, India at South Korea.

Lahat rin ng SEA Games member countries ay sasabak sa track-fest na ito sa pangunguna ng Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Indonesia at Malaysia.

Maliban sa Afghanistan at Iraq na hindi sila siguradong sasali sanhi ng kani-kanilang political conditions gayundin ang Palestine at ang new-independent country na East Timor ang nagkumpirma ng kanilang lahok.
