8-man RP boxing squad pa-Malaysia

Lilipad ang walo-kataong Philippines boxing squad patungong Malaysia ngayong gabi upang hasain ang kani-kanilang talento kontra sa mahuhusay na fighters sa rehiyon sa 21st Asian Amateur Boxing Championships sa Setyembre.

Ang nasabing prestihiyosong annual championship ang siyang pina-kamalaking amateur boxing tournament sa rehiyon at ang delegasyon ay pangungunahan mismo ni Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) president Manny Lopez na binubuo ng magkahalong beterano at baguhan na inaasahang gagawa ng malaking sorpresa.

"This is a tough squad I am bringing to Malaysia. This tournament will serve as the final phase of our program in selecting our representatives to the coming Busan Asian Games," ani Lopez.

Ang koponan ay suportado ng Philippine Sports Commission, Pacific Heights at Revicon na binubuo nina Anthony Igusquiza na lalahok sa lightweight division; Bosnia and Herzegovina Memorial Tournament gold medalists light flyweight Lhyyen Salazar at bantamweight Ferdie Gamo, flyweight Warlito Parenas, featherweight Roel Laguna, light welterweight Florencio Ferrer, light middleweight Christopher Camat at middleweight Maraon Golez.

Ang coaching staff ay kinabibilangan nina George Caliwan, Nolito Velasco at Patricio Gaspi. Tatayong referee/judge si Doy Vidal.

Sinabi pa ni Lopez na ang koponan na kanilang ipadadala sa Busan ay kanilang pipiliin matapos ang championship na ito na lalahukan ng Asian Games bound boxers mula sa iba pang bansa sa rehiyon.
