Ika-5 si Gavino, ika-8 naman si Bernardino sa Asian Chess Challenge

KUALA LUMPUR--Naging maganda ang kampanya ng dalawang lahok ng Pilipinas na sina Arnie Gavilan Jr. at Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., sa ginanap kamakailan na prestihiyosong international men’s individual chess competition sa Rakan Muda Grand Asian Chess Challenge V na ginanap noong Huwebes dito sa Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

Nakipagkasundo ang 19-gulang na si Gavilan, tubong Mangaldan, Pangasinan at isang computer engineering student mula sa UP-Diliman sa kalabang si Eko Supriyono ng Gu-nardama University-Indonesia upang tumapos ng 6 na puntos kasama ang isa pang Filipino na si US master Bernardino ng Quezon City na nakipag-draw din kontra top seed International Master (IM) Liu Dede ng Gunardama University.

Bumagsak si Gavilan sa ikalimang puwesto sanhi ng kanyang mataas na tiebreak points na (56.0), habang tumapos naman ng ikawalong puwesto si Bernardino na ang kanilang kampanya rito ay sinuportahan ng Social Security System (SSS), Executive VP Horacio "Horace" Templo, Consortium Management research Center at Paterno Builders Corporation president Eduardo "Boying" Paterno sanhi ng kanyang lower tiebreak points na (48.0).
