MANILA, Philippines — Officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed their loyalty to the Constitution and the government of President Marcos during a courtesy call on Speaker Martin Romualdez at the House of Representatives late Monday afternoon.

“We will watch your back,” said AFP deputy chief of staff Lt. Gen. Jimmy Larida.

Lt. Gen. Ferdinand Barandon, commander of the AFP Intelligence Command, echoed this commitment, as he emphasized the military’s professionalism and support for government institutions.

The meeting, which included 17 newly promoted generals and senior flag officers, centered on the government’s support for the military through increased funding and welfare programs.

Barandon also assured lawmakers that there is no destabilization plot in the military due to the impending impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“The members of the AFP are professionals and mission-oriented, and we will abide by the duly constituted authorities and we will follow the chain of command. And as emphasized by the chief of staff, the AFP will be neutral as well as mission-focused,” Barandon said.

Asked if there is a “boiling” destabilization plot, the AFP official responded, “There is nothing to worry about.” – Marc Jayson Cayabyab, Helen Flores
