MoneyGram, Habitat for Humanity inaugurate new classrooms

MANILA, Philippines - MoneyGram, a global provider of innovative money transfer services, recently celebrated the completion of two classrooms in Lourdes High School in an area devastated by super typhoon Yolanda in Bohol.

In addition to the classrooms, the MoneyGram Foundation also funded the construction of two typhoon and earthquake-resistant single-room school structures in two different areas of Capiz.

The classrooms and schools were built with Habitat for Humanity Philippines to further MoneyGram’s commitment to help affected communities recover after 80 per cent of schools in the area were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda and the Bohol earthquake in 2013.

“We’re extremely proud of our ongoing collaboration with Habitat for Humanity. The classrooms in Bohol that we celebrate today and the two schools we are building in Capiz not only provide a place for children to learn, they also act as shelter for the community in the event of future natural disasters,” said Alex Lim, MoneyGram regional manager for Philippines.

“MoneyGram is determined and proud to honor our commitment to transform the lives of the communities and customers we serve by offering meaningful access to education through these sound structures that will serve thousands of children for years to come,” he added.

The one-story, two-classroom building structure donated by the MoneyGram Foundation is located at Lourdes High School in Cortes Municipality, Bohol. The entire school was constructed to withstand intense winds and other deadly elements of potential future typhoons and earthquakes.

MoneyGram Foundation is a private, grant-making foundation focused solely on improving access and quality of education for children around the world.
