Filipino students join Huawei training program

MANILA, Philippines - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, welcomed the pioneer batch of students from the Philippines participating in Huawei’s Seeds for the Future Program.

A welcome ceremony was held last Oct. 26 at the Huawei Exhibition Hall in Beijing to welcome the students and formally open the training program. According to Wellington Liu, head of Huawei Philippines’ public affairs and communications, this was the first time that Huawei Philippines participated in the global program and Huawei chose 10 students composed of eight students from Mapua Institute of Technology and two students from the Ateneo De Manila University.

He further added that the Seeds for the Future Program was developed in order to bridge the gap between what is learned in ICT education and what is applied in the industry.

“The program aims to prepare the the students – our future resource – to become more competitive in the digital age. It seeks to develop local talent, transfer knowledge, promote a greater understanding of, and interest in, the telecommunications sector and encourage regional building and participation,” Liu said.

Philippine Ambassador to China Erlinda Basilio was guest of honor and speaker at the event, noting that the embassy was glad with Huawei’s quest “to train the bright minds in the Philippines and (was) glad to be a witness to the launching of the Huawei Seeds for the Future Program”.

She also encouraged the students to make the most of the two-week training program to learn more about the world-class standards of Huawei.

As a parting message to the students, Ambassador Basilio said, “ Give something back to society so that we can all have a more progressive, harmonious and brighter future”.

The day ended with a luncheon hosted by Huawei to commemorate the event and welcome the Ambassador and the students to Huawei Beijing.
