MANILA, Philippines - Mobile leader Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) successfully deployed its rapid emergency communications systems during the metro-wide shake drill that was organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Smart’s participation in the recent shake drill was in line with #SafePH, its year-round preparedness program that also involves measuring its level of preparedness as an organization in the eventuality of disasters and extraordinary events.

Free calls using Smart Satellite Services were made available to the public at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, one of the staging areas of the drill, in partnership with the Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. of affiliate TV5.

A number of Multi-Element on Wheels, boosting network coverage during disasters, was also deployed to the other staging areas in the Aseana Business Park in Brgy Tambo, Parañaque, and the Villamor Air Base Golf Course in Pasay City, in cooperation with the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation.

With the increasing vulnerability of the country to disasters, Smart has embraced preparedness as an organization.

Under its #SafePH advocacy, it has mounted customized initiatives to help partner-communities strengthen their capacity to prepare for, respond, and bounce back from disasters and extraordinary events.
