DPWH, DSWD to create jobs for 4Ps households

MANILA, Philippines - A partnership between two key government agencies aims to generate jobs for beneficiaries of the Aquino administration’s Conditional Cash Transfer program also known as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earlier this week signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to start a program that will provide roadside maintenance jobs to 4Ps households.

The program called “Trabahong Lansangan ng Programang Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino” will provide employment opportunities among unskilled beneficiaries.

Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson and Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman launched the program in Tondo, Manila through the formal hiring of workers for road maintenance activities such as drainage declogging and street sweepers.

Under the program, the DSWD will provide priority list of beneficiaries, conduct community organization and social preparation skills inventory and development, and conduct regular monitoring/reporting of project operation.

In turn, the DPWH will provide the DSWD the list of its annual labor requirement for skilled and unskilled workers, allocate 20 percent of its labor requirement to 4Ps beneficiaries nationwide, and ensure the implementation of appropriate labor wages.
