Officials' wives form 1st Ladies League

- Eva Visperas -

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan ,Philippines  – Wives of elected officials here have banded together to make a difference in public service by reaching out to ordinary folks in need.

Suzanne de Dios-Resuello, wife of San Carlos City Mayor Julier Resuello, leads the 125-member First Ladies League, Inc. composed of wives of elected officials, from the mayor to the barangay captains.

Their latest venture, a two-day bloodletting activity held Sept. 6-7, resulted in more than 150 bags of blood gathered from volunteers, especially timely since blood is in demand due to dengue cases afflicting several Pangasinenses.

Donated blood bags were deposited at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City under the national government.

Resuello, a registered nurse, said since they formed their group on Dec. 28 last year, they had already done several outreach projects, from feeding programs, medical and dental missions, circumcision, ears piercing for baby girls, gift-giving to indigent kids, and others. These projects use funds raised in their bingo games.

Resuello encourages her group to help the needy even in small and humble ways.

“Think about you and your children. Do you have some extras? I’m sure you have. Then think about children who don’t even have slippers to wear. Little things like this should motivate us to reach out,” Resuello said.
