MANILA, Philippines –  Some 16 companies were recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently for their exemplary environmental performance, in consonance with the Philippine Environment Partnership Program (PEPP).

The awardees are: AMKOR Technology Inc. (Biñan, Laguna); AMKOR Technology Inc. (Muntinlupa City); Atlantic Coatings Inc. (Trece Martires City, Cavite); Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. (Ilagan, Isabela); Kraft Foods Philippines (Sucat, Parañaque); Nestle North Distribution Center (Meycauyan, Bulacan); Nestle South Distribution Center (Calamba, Laguna); PSI Technologies Inc. (Taguig City);

PSI Technologies Laguna Inc. (Calamba, Laguna); San Miguel Brewery Inc.-Davao Brewery (Darong, Davao del Sur); Team Energy-Pagbilao Corporation (Pagbilao, Quezon); Team Energy-Sual Corporation (Sual, Pangasinan); Texas Instruments Philippines (Loakan, Baguio City); Toshiba Information Equipment (Phils.) Inc. (Biñan, Laguna); Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (Santa Rosa, Laguna); and United Pulp and Paper Co. Inc. (Calumpit, Bulacan).

DENR Secretary Ramon Paje commended the men and women behind the winning companies, saying their commitment to improve on the environmental performance of their respective firms will hopefully inspire other industries to pursue environmental excellence.

“These companies have no case filed with the Pollution Adjudication Board for three years prior to the date of application; they are in full compliance with all applicable environmental laws and were proven to show superior environmental performance by a third party auditor,” Paje said.

The PEPP aims to support industry self-regulation towards improved environmental performance. By providing a package of incentives and reward mechanisms to industries, the DENR hopes to assist business establishments, particularly small and medium enterprises, to adopt pollution prevention and cleaner production processes.

From 2008-2009, a total of 14 industry associations and eight individual industries have joined the PEPP.
